SnagVid privacy policy

Updated 26 September 2026 — applies to the 0.9.49 free launch build.

Publisher: SnagVid developer
Privacy/support contact: snagvid.support@gmail.com

SnagVid detects accessible media on web pages and saves supported media selected by the user. It has no advertising, analytics, account requirement, usage quota or payment flow. Media URLs and downloaded files are not sent to the publisher.

Information accessed

The extension reads visited-page URLs/titles, media response headers, video/audio element sources, player metadata, relevant inline JSON and bounded copies of text/JSON/XML responses delivered to the page. It may inspect browser storage for manifest URLs. It uses this information to associate media with the page, show available qualities and generate labels/previews. Relevant page/player data can contain signed media URLs and access tokens. This data is processed locally for detection and downloading; it is not exported to a developer service. Password/form entry capture is not a feature.

Manifest analysis, availability checking, supported site resolution and previews can request data from the source/CDN before a download starts. Downloading fetches the selected media. These requests may use the browser’s existing authorized site session. Source services receive ordinary request information under their own policies. SnagVid does not bypass login, DRM or access restrictions.

Storage and deletion

Detections, source metadata and independent download-job records use Chrome session storage. Detection state is cleared on navigation/tab closure, while jobs remain independent until dismissed. Session storage is not browser-restart resume. Destination preferences use local extension storage. Legacy quota, license or restoration records from older versions are ignored. Clearing extension storage or uninstalling removes extension records.

Temporary media is staged in Chrome’s Origin Private File System for assembly. Cleanup runs after saving, failure or cancellation with bounded attempts; a browser/process crash can interrupt cleanup. Saved files and Chrome’s download records remain until the user removes them. Browser shutdown or extension reload can interrupt active downloads.

Sharing and limited use

SnagVid does not sell user data, send browsing/media data to a publisher server, or use it for advertising, unrelated purposes or creditworthiness decisions. SnagVid’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Media requests go to the relevant source websites/CDNs as needed to provide the selected function.

If you email the public support address, the publisher and their email provider receive the information you choose to send and use it to respond. Avoid sending signed media URLs or private files unless needed for troubleshooting. Contact the address above to request deletion of support correspondence, subject to any applicable retention obligations.

Payments and changes

This launch version has no donation/payment button or payment provider connection. All supported downloads are free and unlimited. Any future payment or data-practice change will require an updated policy and extension release. Contact the publisher above with privacy questions.
